Early tests show freed Chibok girl ‘is pregnant’

The abducted “Chibok girl” released on Wednesday is “pregnant and mentally ill”, national chairman of Chibok association, Dr Pogu Bitrus, has told TheCable.

Earlier on Thursday, the police revealed that the 20-year-old girl was abandoned by suspected terrorists at Mubi in Adamawa state from where she was picked up. It also confirmed that she was one of the female pupils of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state, abducted in April by Boko Haram.

However, Bitrus said it was still uncertain if the girl was from Chibok because her name did not correspond with any of the names in the records of the girls that were captured by Boko Haram on April 14.

“I was speaking Kibaku to her, but she did not respond; she was incoherent,” he said.

“She may be having mental issues as a result of trauma.”

Bitrus added that preliminary tests – still not definitive – indicated that the girl is pregnant.

“When she was picked up, she was taken to a clinic, not a standard hospital, and tests were carried out on her,” he said.

“From the tests, it was said she is pregnant, but that is still in the speculative domain because a qualified medical doctor has not confirmed that she is pregnant.

“However, we are still trying to establish if really she is from Chibok because from our sources, the last name of the released girl does not tally with the surname of the person bearing the first name of the released girl captured in our recoords and whose father is a carpenter at Chibok. So we are still trying to work out every detail.”

  1. What’s all these Mess? These Chibok people need to be organised. the girl that was picked up should have relations I think? Mere seeing her face by her relations should conclude the long grammar on the matter. That Dr. Bitrus spoke the dialect to her and she was not responding makes mockery of the whole thing. Bring the girl to chibok and let the other ladies that escaped earlier ascertain whether she was part of them or not. They (the Chibok community) should know that the matter is no longer their matter or Nigeria matter alone, the whole World is interested in the matter and any attempt to make it a moonlit tale through this kind of uncoordinated stories will only make nonsense of the entire issue. Ko ba haka ba?

  2. Does it mean she can`t speak? IF that is the case i think she should be taking to the chibok community maybe they can identify her.

  3. The government and the media shld pls stop giving us false hope.the chibok girls are suppose to b in their respective homes by now. Our government has failed us woefully.
