Police ‘kill’ Nenadi Usman’s niece in Abuja

Officers of the Nigerian Police Force have allegedly killed Anita Akapson, a niece of Nenadi Usman, former minister of finance.

Akapson was said to have been killed on Saturday night in Katampe Extension area of Abuja by four police officers.

Ibrahim Idris, the inspector general of police, has ordered the detention and investigation of its officers allegedly involved in the killing of Akapson.

In a statement on Monday, Jimoh Moshood, spokesperson of the police force, said the IGP ordered the immediate detention of the trigger-happy officers.

He said the commissioner of police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been directed to bring the perpetrators of the killing to justice.

“IGP has ordered the detention and investigation of Policemen involved in the incident that led to the death of Miss Anita Akapson,” the statement read.

“He deeply commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures them that justice will be done in the matter.

“The Inspector General of Police has directed the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to immediately detain and personally carry out a thorough investigation of policemen involved in the incident that resulted in the death of Miss Anita Akapson at Katampe Extension, Abuja on the night of Saturday, 13th October 2018; and bring the perpetrators to justice”.

Moshood said the FCT commissioner of police was already in touch with the family of the deceased and ensured Nigerians that the outcome of the investigations will be made public.

“The IGP deeply commiserate with the family of the deceased and hereby assure them that justice will be done in the matter.

“The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command is already in touch with the family as directed by the Inspector General of Police. The public will be informed of the outcome of investigations into the incident.”
