The South East Progressive Forum (SEPF) has defended President Muhammadu Buhari over accusations of lopsidedness in his political appointments so far.
Buhari, who is yet to make any substantive appointment from the south-east since his inauguration, has been accused of favouring the north by sections of the public.
But the SEPF, led by Bethel Amadi (pictured), former majority chief whip of the house of representatives, said on Thursday that the appointments were purely the prerogative of the president.
Amadi, who served three terms in the house of representatives, was speaking as he led a delegation of the group to meet with Buhari at the presidential villa.
He said the issue of political appointments for the south-east did not feature in their discussion with Buhari.
Amadi said: “Appointment is at the prerogative of the president. At the appropriate time, he will appoint people he can work with.”
His team was waiting to be called in when fresh appointments were announced, again without any appointee from the south-east despite hopes that the secretary to the government of the federation would come from the zone.
Amadi said the delegation discussed issues of bad roads, erosion and kidnapping in the south-east.
He said Buhari promised to look into the issues.
