About 106 members of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Edo state have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The ADP defectors are from Egor, Ovia south-west and Ovia north-east local government areas of Edo.
Oshodin Izedomwen, the organising secretary of the ADP in Edo who led the defectors, said on Tuesday the defection was a demonstration of their belief in the capacity of the PDP.
He said he was a founding member of the PDP and that he left the party because of some persons, whom he described as “strange bedfellows”.

“In politics, interest matters because it is always the driving force,” he said.
Receiving the defectors, Tony Aziegbemi, the state chairman of the PDP, described the action of the new party members and their leader as a homecoming.
Aziegbemi assured the defectors that they would be integrated into the PDP to contribute to the success of the party in the state.

Godwin Obaseki, the governor, had defected from the APC to the PDP in June after he was disqualified by the ruling party to contest for re-election on its platform over the allegation of “defective certificate”.
The governor, subsequently, clinched the governorship ticket of the PDP on June 25, after three other aspirants stood down for him.
The governorship election is slated for September 19.
