A minibus driver and 12 pupils were killed in a road accident on Wednesday morning in Johannesburg’s Gauteng province, South Africa — a day after schools reopened.
The Gauteng education department said 11 of the pupils were from Rocklands Primary School and one from Laerskool Blyvooruitsig in Carletonville.
The minibus was said to have been struck from behind by a small pick-up truck, causing it to overturn and subsequently catch fire, but authorities said police are investigating what happened.
Seven children who were injured were reportedly rushed to hospital.

Police said a case of culpable homicide has been opened, adding that the driver of the pick-up truck was receiving treatment.
