Gunmen have reportedly abducted 16 people, following an attack on Angwa Pa community in Kajuru LGA of Kaduna.

The attack, according to a resident of the community, occurred at about 7:30pm on Monday.

The development comes hours after gunmen attacked Angwan Aku, also in Kajuru LGA, on Christmas day.

The gunmen were said to have killed one resident and abducted 45 others during the Sunday attack.

The resident said the gunmen stormed the village in large number, adding that 53 people were kidnapped but 37 of them escaped.

The resident said 16 of the kidnapped persons are still in captivity.

“We didn’t expect that the bandits will attack Angwan Pa because, after the attack on Anguwan Aku on Sunday, soldiers were deployed to the area,” the source said.

“The bandits came around 7:30pm on Monday and surrounded the village. They usually come in very large numbers and are well armed.

“They will just sneak into a community, and before you know it, they have surrounded everywhere.

“If you run, they will shoot you and kill you. They don’t usually enter big communities that are densely populated.

“They target small and remote villages that are sparsely populated. They don’t dare enter big villages because they are also afraid of their lives.

“Many rural communities in Kajuru are living in perpetual fear.”

Mohammed Jalige, police spokesperson in Kaduna, could not be reached when contacted for comment on the development, as his phone was switched off.
