The United Idoma Citizens (UIC), a body comprising 10 groups from the constituency of former Senate President David Mark in Benue state, has described all the years that he spent at the upper chamber of the national assembly as a “complete disaster”.
Mark, who led the senate in the 6th and 7th assemblies, has been in the legislative chamber since the return of democracy in 1999.
Following the annulment of his victory by the appeal court, the high-ranking senator would be participating in a rerun election on February 13.
But the UIC, which accused the lawmaker of abandoning several projects in his constituency, asked him not to contest the poll.

“Why has Mark chosen to return to the Senate as a floor member, having served as the number three man in the nation for eight years?” Sunday Ogbe, UIC coordinator, asked in a statement.
“Mark’s 16 years in the Senate is a complete disaster. His achievements were only seen on the pages of newspapers and blogs.
“As the number three man in the nation for eight years, his kinsmen back home had no portable water.

“It is sad, yet shameful, that Mark is asking for votes from Idoma people he betrayed. He has been using the creation of Apa State as a gimmick to hoodwink our people.
“He promised to use the last drop of his blood to create Apa State; now the story has changed.
“We thank the senator for his 16 years of disservice to Idomaland.”
