At least 17 people were reportedly killed after a suspected suicide bomber attacked a market in the Konduga area of Borno state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the incident occurred around 8pm on Wednesday.

The publication said the explosion took place at a market in Kawuri community, Konduga LGA, which is located about 50 kilometers from Maiduguri.

Intelligence sources told Makama that the improvised explosive device (IED) was suspected to have been detonated by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

The sources added that more than 20 people reportedly sustained injuries during the blast.

“The bomber loitered in the community for some days with the locals before carrying out the attack,” the source said.

The publication said response teams were dispatched to the location to evacuate the injured victims, adding that the corpses have been taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Konduga.
