17-year-old golfing sensation to participate in FirstBank’s 57th tourney

Georgia Oboh, a 17-year old golfing sensation, will be a participant at the 57th edition of the Lagos amateur open golf championship sponsored by FirstBank.

The three-day tournament will take off on Friday, November 16, and run through Sunday, November 18 at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Course in Lagos.

Folake Ani-Mumuney, group head, marketing & corporate communications at FirstBank, said the bank aims to groom upcoming talents in the game, prompting the deal it signed with Oboh.

“The Bank recently signed an endorsement deal with teenage golf sensation, Georgia Oboh, who at only 17 has set her sights on playing on the LPGA circuit which she has already been invited to participate in. With this, she would be the youngest African female golfer to have ever reached this milestone,” Ani-Mumuney said.

“The Lagos Amateur Golf Championship is not just a competition but a tradition FirstBank is honoured to associate with for 56 years.

“Our identification with the competition is in line with our strategic objective of recognising activities that promote the socio-economic diversity and growth of the nation as well as the promotion of talents that fly the green and white colours of the Nigeria beyond the shores of the country.”

Over 280 professional golfers and amateurs are expected at this year’s event which will feature a “professional coaching clinic,” a “beat the pro skills competition,” and end with an awards ceremony on Sunday.
