18 boxers lock horns as GOtv Boxing Night returns to Lagos

The 16th edition of GOtv Boxing Night will feature 18 fighters who will partake in nine bouts.

Tagged Independence Edition, the boxing extravaganza will take place on October 14 at the Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

During a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, the organisers said the planned nine bouts will be the highest ever since the event debuted in 2014.

Chidozie Bede-Nwokoye, marketing manager, GOtv, said: “The whole idea is to bring a world championship fight to Nigeria in the nearest future. We are using our NextGen search project to discover talents and project them on the national stage.”

The biggest duel of the night will be between Rilwan ‘Real One’ Oladosu and Ghana’s Benjamin Lamptey. The duo will slug it out for the West African Boxing Union (WABU) lightweight title.

The international lightweight challenge bout will feature African Boxing Union champion, Nigeria’s Oto ‘Joe Boy’ Joseph, and Ghana’s Anama Dotse.

Also on the line-up is the national light heavyweight title bout, which pits Kabiru ‘KB Godson’ Towolawi against Adewale ‘Masevex’ Masebinu.

Another marquee match-up will see Waidi ‘Skoro’ Usman in a featherweight clash with Chibuzor ‘T Boy’ Obi.

Most of the boxers featuring in GoTV Boxing Night 16 are from the NextGen search project.

The best boxer of GOtv Boxing Night 16 will walk away with N1.5m.
