Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central, has taunted the federal government over the $1 billion recently released for procurement of security equipment.
He said while the military is being upgraded with the money, the Nigeria police force and other security agencies are left behind.
On Wednesday, Mansur Dan-Ali, minister of defence, announced that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the release of the money.
He had said the money is “for the purchase of more equipment for the military.”

Writing via his Twitter handle on Friday, Sani talked about the implication of leaving out other security agencies.
“If we use a billion dollar to upgrade our military arsenal to the 21st century while leaving behind our police in the 20th century and other security agencies in the 19th century, we will be dancing with the python and sleeping with the cobra, viper, mamba and anaconda,” he wrote.

Reacting to criticisms that Buhari did not get the approval of the national assembly for the release of the fund, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said a draft bill would be sent to the lawmakers to that effect.
