Two brothers – Gideon Gwani and Charles Bonat – are contesting for the Kaura federal constituency seat in Kaduna state.
The contestants are both princes of the Kagoro chiefdom in Kaura local government of the state.
In 2006, Bonat contested against Gwani’s father, Jehu, for the first class traditional stool, which became vacant after the death of Gwamna Awan, its former occupier.
While Bonat was the only aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the slot, Gwani defeated four others to pick the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While Gwani, who presently represents the constituency at the national assembly, is confident that the people would give him a fresh mandate, Bonat insists that there should be change.
Gwani promised to do more if given another opportunity.
“I was able to sink boreholes for 80 communities; that has minimised consumption of bad water largely responsible for most of the health challenges among my largely rural constituents,” he said.

However, Bonat said that if elected, he would represent the constituency better and improve the wellbeing of the constituents.
Meanwhile, Dauda Peter, a notable community leader in Kaura, said there was no need to worry over the contest.
“The two of them are brothers, so whoever wins is a son of the palace,” he said.
“The chiefdom has no official candidate; they are both our children, and we can say it is a family affair.

“All we have asked of them is peaceful conduct of campaigns and the election.
“We have also asked them to ensure that their supporters are orderly; we do not condone thugs here.
“Kagoro has never been known for violence; the quest for office by two brothers can never change that.”
