2 die in Kogi communal clash

Two people lost their lives in a communal clash in Ikende community in Bassa local government council area of Kogi state.

William Aya, police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, confirmed this to journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday.

He said the clash involved the people Ebira and Bassa kwomu.

Aya said corpses of the two victims were recovered by police officers deployed to the area, adding that four other persons were seriously wounded in the clashes.

According to him, 15 houses, five vehicles and 15 motorcycles were burnt by the warring groups.

Aya said the situation had been brought under control, and that no arrest had been made.

The PPRO said that Ikende town had been deserted by residents, who are now hiding in the bush.

He said anti-riot police officers will remain on ground until the safety of live and property can be guaranteed.
