Seven ministers in the cabinet of President Goodluck Jonathan have resigned their appointments to seek different elective offices in the 2015 general election.
Although not alone, Labaran Maku, the minister for information, declared interest on Sunday to contest the governorship election in Nasarawa state.
Other ministers who have submitted their resignation include Samuel Ortom, the minister of state for trade and industry; Nyesom Wike, minister of state for education; Musiliu Obanikoro, minister of state for defence; Emeka Wogu, minister of labour; Onyebuchi Chukwu, minister for health; and Dairus Ishaku, minister of state for Niger Delta.
Chukwu, who was recently commended by the APC for his role in the containment of the deadly Ebola virus, had earlier indicated interest in picking up the PDP gubernatorial ticket for Ebonyi state.

On the other hand, Obanikoro, who contested in the April 2007 governorship poll in Lagos state, wants to succeed Babatunde Fashola, the man who defeated him seven years ago.
