Ibrahim Dankwambo, governor of Gombe state, has declared his intention to contest in the 2019 presidential election.
Dankwambo made the announcement via his Twitter handle on Saturday.
The governor said his decision to run for the highest office in the country followed widespread consultations with party members and Nigerians.
The governor tweeted: “After wide consultations with party members & Nigerians of diverse backgrounds, I, Dr Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo will be running for office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of our great party, the People’s Democratic Party.”

Dankwambo will vie for the PDP ticket alongside other presidential hopefuls such as former vice-president Atiku Abubakar and Ahmed Makarfi, former chairman of the party’s national working committee.
Other members of the party also said to be nurturing presidential ambition include Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano state; and Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state.
