The police in Jigawa say 21 people died after their vehicles crashed into a broken culvert on Sunday, in Gwaram LGA of the state.
Lawan Shiisu, spokesman of Jigawa police command, confirmed the development in Dutse, the state capital, on Sunday.
Shiisu said a bus conveying 18 passengers from Kano to Adamawa, and an unregistered lorry with three passengers, fell into a broken culvert covered with water.
According to NAN, the spokesman said victims were confirmed dead at the Basirka hospital.

“Today, at about 6am, we received a distress call from Radabi village that an accident occurred on the Gwaram-Basirka road,” he said.
“The accident occurred after one Hummer bus with registration number FYK 406 ZA, and a Canter lorry fell into a broken culvert full of water.
“Victims were evacuated to Basirka Hospital, where 21 of the passengers were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

Shiisu said Simon Chinapi, a 26-year-old from Mubi in Adamawa, survived the crash.
The police spokesman added that Aliyu Tafida, Adamawa commissioner of police, has ordered a “prompt and discreet investigation into the incident”.
