21 Kenyans en route UAE arrested with ‘forged’ COVID-19 certificates

Twenty-one Kenyans have been arrested for attempting to use forged COVID-19 certificates to travel from Kenya to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to the BBC.

The suspects were apprehended at the main airport in Nairobi, Kenyan capital, on Thursday, while about travelling to Dubai, UAE.

The development comes after UAE issued visa ban on some Kenyans for allegedly using fake “COVID-free certificates”.

One hundred Kenyans were earlier reported to have been found with fake documents and half of them later tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the Kenyan health ministry, the country recorded 780 infections on Thursday, making the total confirmed cases of coronavirus rise to 80,102 and 1,427 deaths.

Due to the pandemic, in most countries, travellers are asked to undergo COVID-19 test, which must be negative, before they are allowed to travel to another country.
