219 girls march in Abuja for 219 Chibok girls

Chibok Girls Global ambassadors March to the Ministry of Education

Two hundred and nineteen school children who are ambassadors of the #Bringbackourgirls (BBOG) group, representing the 219 schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity, on Monday marched to the ministry of education in Abuja as part of activities to mark the first anniversary of the abduction.

The sect kidnapped more than 200 girls from Government Girls Secondary School Chibok‎, Borno state, on April 14, 2014.

According to Emman Shehu, a leader of the group, the school children marched to the ministry of education to demand the rescue of the girls before May 29.

“The school children took a letter to the minister of education to demand the rescue of their sisters before May 29, but the permanent secretary received us and promised that‎ something would be done about it,” he said.”The march was part of activities to commemorate the abduction of the Chibok girls.”

‎The BBOG group has been holding sit-ins since May 2014 for the abducted girls. On Monday, it members embarked on a March around the city of Abuja with tapes on their lips‎ to signify the silence of the government on the rescue of the girls.

Also, marking the first anniversary of the Chibok abduction, Muhammadu Buhari, president-elect, said: “I say to every parent, family member and friend of the children that my government will do everything in its power to bring them home.

“What I can pledge, with absolute certainty, is that, starting from the first day of my administration, Boko Haram will know the strength of our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror, and bring back peace and normalcy to all the affected areas.”

The whereabouts of the Chibok girls is still unknown, but there are reports that they were seen in Gwoza in Borno state.However, the Nigerian military has not given any official‎ information on the girls despite its successful efforts to rid the northeast of insurgents.
