Kwara asks residents to inform emir of Ilorin before inviting herdsmen

The Kwara state government has directed residents to avoid inviting herdsmen or other individuals into their communities without the knowledge of Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, emir of Ilorin.

According to Muyideen Akorede, senior special assistant on media and communications to Abdulfatah Ahmed, the state governor, the directive was given at the state security council meeting on Wednesday.

He added that the state government also directed the police to ensure compliance with the compensation mechanism put in place as an instrument to maintain peace between farmers and herdsmen.

“The council received and took note of reports of cultism and other related activities in the state, and restated its call on landlords to properly scrutinize their prospective tenants before accommodating them,” the statement read.

“It also urged residents to be vigilant and security conscious and report any suspicious activities or movement to the appropriate authorities.

“Others present in the council meeting include Peter Kisira, deputy governor, Sulu Gambari, Isiaka Gold, secretary to the state government, Kamaldeen Ajibade, state attorney-general, and heads of security agencies in the state.”
