23 Christians shot to death in Egypt

At least 23 people have been killed after gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying Coptic Christians in central Egypt, state media report.

According to BBC, 25 persons were also wounded in the attack which occurred on Friday morning.

The bus was attacked as it was headed to a church in Minya province, 250km south of Cairo, the country’s capital.

Recent months have witnessed a number of attacks on Christians in the country.

The Islamic State (IS) militants have attacked various times claimed responsibility for the attacks.

On April 9, two suicide bombings targeting churches in Tanta and Alexandria left at least 46 people dead.

The attacks prompted President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to declare a nationwide state of emergency.

He had also promised to do “whatever was necessary to confront jihadists.”
