’24 vehicles’: You could have called my phone instead of addressing the media, Arase tells new IGP

L-R: Former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase smiles as President Muhammadu buhari congratulates Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, Acting Inspector-General of Police

Solomon Arase, former inspector-general of police (IGP), has denied the allegation that he took away 24 police vehicles while leaving office.

On Sunday, Ibrahim Idris, his successor, accused him and the deputy inspectors-general (DIG) who retired along with him of illegally leaving service with vehicles belonging to the force.

The acting IGP had said he had written to Arase and all the officers concerned to return the vehicles to avoid sanction.

But speaking from London, where he is billed to attend the graduation ceremony of his son, Arase expressed shock over the allegation.

He wondered why Idris, who could have sent him a “text message”, decided to address the media on the issue.

He also denied receiving any letter from his successor on the development.

“I suspect there must be a disconnect somewhere because every information needed by my successor are provided in my handover notes,” Arase said in a statement.

“I’m also not aware that any letter was written to me because if there was any dropped in my house, someone would have alerted me.

“It’s unfortunate that this matter is being made a media issue because my successor has my telephone number and could have called me for any clarification or even sent me a text message rather than addressing the media on an issue well documented in my handover notes.”

  1. Is that how the new IGP wants to lead the Police, in that case he should prepare for a turbulent ride

  2. I pity anybody from South that is in Buhari cabinet. This is a man living in the past where nepotism was key. He is taking us back to 1967- Nzeogwu

  3. It is a pity that Idris or what is His name who was lucky to become I.G after many ahead of him were sacked because by all means a Northerner must be there could not even be intelligent enough to read a handover note nor call his immediate I G who was his boss to clarify things but to jump to press briefing .Pls tell him to remember the sayings of our elders that “whoever would want to go and burry his elder brother naked should not forget to go with his own younger brother”

  4. Your comment..Arase should remember his Agatu comments when he was not at the spot himself. Now he the Law of Karma is coming.

  5. The new IGP cannot investigate his office? So before gathering facts,he jumped to conclusions & went public.too bad. Arase also did not say he did/didn’t go with 24 cars. Media court can work for the general politics, not for our safety…the new IGP should step up and show some professionalism
