The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has suspended three assistant superintendents of customs for extorting $13,000 from a passenger at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Wale Adeniyi, public relations officer of the service, made this known during an interview with NAN in Abuja on Friday.
“The officers extorted the money during the outward clearance of the passenger on Emirates Airline flight,” he said.
“The three officers have been suspended from service. They are all assistant superintendents of customs and working with currency declaration desk at the airport.

“When interrogated, they agreed that they collected the money and offered to refund it to the passenger.”
He noted that Dikko Abdullahi, comptroller-general of customs, expressed regrets over the involvement of some officers in various illegal acts.
Adeniyi added that the comptroller general has warned that the service will not tolerate sharp practices that could tarnish the image of the service.
