Three police officers serving in Ebonyi were confirmed dead on Wednesday, following a road accident that occurred along the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway in the state.
Ten other officers were said to have sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at an unnamed hospital.
Garba Aliyu, commissioner of police in Ebonyi who confirmed the incident, said the officers were returning from a peacekeeping mission after a communal crisis in Ezza-Effium, Ohaukwu local government area of the state.
“Yes, I am in the hospital now. We lost three officers, while 10 others are under intensive care in the hospital,” NAN quoted him to have said.

TheCable had reported that eight persons were killed last week in a clash that involved residents of Effium and Ezza-Effium communities in the state.
The crisis erupted following a leadership tussle involving members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.
The police commissioner had said at the time that 60 persons were arrested in connection with the incident and eight houses, including a petrol station, were also burnt during the attacks.
