Three security guards killed as gunmen abduct landlord in Lagos

Three security guards were on Thursday killed while trying to foil the kidnap of Dayo Adekoya, a resident of an estate in Isheri north, Lagos.

According to Channels Television, 11 gunmen stormed the estate around 10pm, and kept on shooting until 1am when they captured their target.

Fatai Owoseni, commissioner of police in the state, said efforts were in place to secure the release of Adekoya.

The latest incident comes six months after four landlords were kidnapped during a routine morning exercise.

They were released five days later.

This is the first known incident of kidnap in the state since Akinwunmi Ambode, the governor, signed anti-kidnapping bill into law.

The law imposes a penalty of life imprisonment on kidnapping for ransom, and also stipulates that where a victim dies in the course of kidnap, the suspect is liable on conviction to death.
