More than two months after the Boko Haram insurgents seized a police riot academy in Gwoza, Borno state, 30 policemen are still unaccounted for.

Suleiman Abba, the acting inspector-general of police, earlier pegged the figure of the missing officers at 20.

However, after a security meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the presidential villa on Tuesday, he told reporters that the figure of missing men had risen to 30.

“We are still talking about 30 missing officers,” he said.

“It still remains our hope that they are alive and that they will come back alive.”

Abba refused to comment on the issues discussed at the meeting with the president but Mohammed Adoke, the attorney-general of the federation, who was also in attendance, said the ceasefire deal was top on their agenda.

Alex Badeh, chief of defence staff; Kenneth Minimah, the chief of army staff; Usman Jibrin, chief of naval staff; Olusola Amosun, chief of air staff; Sambo Dasuki, national security adviser; Ita Ekpeypong, director-general of the state security service; and Abba Moro, minister of interior, were among those in attendance.
