At least 30 residents have reportedly been shot in a clash between Ifon community in Orolu LGA and Ilobu in Irepodun council area of Osun state.

The clash, which began in the early hours of Friday, also saw several homes and businesses set ablaze, forcing many women and children to flee.

Tensions between the two communities have persisted over a long-standing land dispute, with previous attempts to broker peace proving unsuccessful.

Videos circulating on social media show members of the Concerned Youth of Ifon Osun, Orolu Kingdom expressing frustration over the repeated attacks.

“We, the Youth of Ifon Osun Orolu Kingdom, call on the state Government of Osun to hasten their steps and actions to short things out,” they said.

”We have been patiently enduring the brutal attacks and destructive behavior of Ilobu hoodlums for far too long.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult for us to remain passive while our ancestral properties and farmlands are being destroyed and our people are being harmed.”

In response, Ademola Adeleke, the state governor, has ordered immediate security operations to restore peace in the area.

A statement issued on Friday by Olawale Rasheed, hos spokesperson, condemned the renewed violence and warned against the politicisation of the crisis.

The governor directed security agencies to track down those responsible for instigating the violence and ensure they face justice.

He also urged the peace committee to ensure immediate cessation of hostility to preserve lives and property.

The governor warned that his administration will no longer tolerate further breaches of past peace agreements.

“The Governor is currently holding security and political engagements to find a lasting solution to the crisis which predates the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke,” the statement reads.
