We have 3,000 kidnap suspects in custody, says IGP

Ibrahim Idris, Inspector-general of police (IGP), says about 3,000 kidnap suspects are in police custody.

Idris said this on Friday while speaking with journalists at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The IGP said a task force had been set up to ensure that the suspects have speedy trials.

“Presently, we have almost over 3000 suspects in the various police stations all over the country and we are taking them to court,” Idris said.

“Recently, I set up a task force to sort of streamline or scrutinise these cases so that we have speedy trial of some of these suspects.”

He also said over 20,000 police officers would be deployed to Anambra state to provide security during the forthcoming governorship election.
