Muhammad Sa’ad, Sultan of Sokoto, led the procession of 30,000 mourners to the burial of Umaru Shinkafi, former head of the National Security Organisation (NSO), in Sokoto state on Friday.
His remains arrived Sokoto airport around 10:30am before it was conveyed to his residence at Alhassan Avenue in Sokoto GRA.
Shinkafi died in the United Kingdom on Wednesday after battling a prolonged ailment.
He was laid to rest at exactly 2:56pm at Hubbare – the burial site of Sokoto Caliphate’s pious and noble – in Sokoto

Dignitaries from all walks of life attended the funeral prayers which held at the Sultan Bello Mosque.
Some of the ministers in attendance were: Abdulrahman Dambazau, (interior), Abubakar Malami, (justice), Sulaiman Adamu (water resources), Hadi Sirika (state , aviation), and Mansur Dan Ali (defence).
Lawal Daura, director-general of State Security Services (SSS), Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, also attended the programme.

The governors were: Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Kashima Shattima (Borno) and Abubakar Bello (Niger).
