32 players to slug it out at Chamberlain Squash Open

Thirty-two players will converge in Lagos for the 2018 Chamberlain Squash Open which kicks off on Monday.

According to the organiser of the tournament, Chamberlain Usoh, participants from over 12 countries have registered for the championship.

He said the six-day event will be bigger than the maiden edition.

“We have 32 players (16 females and 16 males) for the main draws of the tournament,” Usoh said.

“There will be qualifying matches and the players to play those matches have started arriving.

“We have players coming from Egypt, South Africa, Zimbabwe, USA, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, Scotland, Iran, Pakistan, India and many others.

“They will be slugging it out in a six-day tournament. Winners will smile home with various prizes far better than what was given last year.”

The tournament, Usoh said, has the endorsement and support of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and the World Squash Federation (WSF).

He said a top referee from the World Squash Federation (WSF) has been assigned as the lead official for the tournament.

“We are happy with the level of support from WSF and PSA.

“We are also enjoying tremendous support from local stakeholders like federal ministry of sports, Lagos state government, Nigeria Squash Federation and a host of private sector companies.

“We are optimistic that we will have a grand event.”

The championship will take place from May 7 to 12 at the indoor sports hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
