Ibrahim Bukar, chairman of Gwoza local government in Borno, says 35 persons have died in the LGA after experiencing diarrhea and vomiting.
Bukar announced this on Monday, at an interactive session with stakeholders in border communities, organised by the Borno boundary commission in partnership with the national boundary commission.
According to NAN, the LG chairman said the residents reported the symptoms over the weekend, adding that 150 persons were hospitalised.
He said the outbreak of diarrhea is part of the challenges confronting border communities because of inadequate health facilities.

“General hospital, clinics, customs and immigration houses, water projects and all other properties in the border communities have been destroyed,” he said.
“Provision of clean water supply in all border communities is a top priority. Water-related diseases will be avoided when clean water is supplied to border communities.
“This is very necessary because most sources of water in the destroyed border communities have been polluted with corpses, chemicals and the rest, hence they are not good for human consumption.”

The chairman asked that health facilities be provided to border communities to stop people from travelling to neighbouring regions for medical treatment.
