Four die as jet crashes in UK

A pilot and three passengers died after a private jet crashed into a car auction site as it was trying to land in Blackbushe Airport in Yateley on Friday.

The jet was arriving from Italy.

A witness said the aircraft exploded on impact at the site, which is based at the airfield.

In a statement, Blackbushe airport said the jet crashed near the end of the runway while attempting to make a landing.

A spokeswoman for Milan Malpensa airport confirmed the plane had left at 13:30 BST on its way to Hampshire.

Commenting on the incident, Olga Venner, acting chief inspector of Hampshire police, said: “We can confirm that there were four people on board, including the pilot.

“Sadly, there were no survivors. No-one on the ground has been injured and we would urge anyone with any information, including pictures or videos, to contact 101.”

Andrew Thomas, who was paying for a car at the time, saw the plane catch fire on impact.

Another witness took to Twitter to narrate his experience.

“The plane crash just missed us,” he wrote.

“I saw it when it had just happened, and could see the plane and cars in flames. The plane nosedived into the cars and exploded on impact.”
