6 celebrities who haven’t ‘abandoned’ local TV stations

To some Nigerians, it appears there is nothing exciting to catch on local TV since virtually every one has moved to cable TV.

Well, if you belong to that category, you are in for a surprise. Here are six celebrities who still believe in the good, old local TV:

FUNKE AKINDELE

After the huge success of Jenifa, her 2009 movie, Funke Akindele became a popular name on the lips of Nollywood lovers.

Jenifa’s Diaries, a drama series by the 39-year old actress, is showing on local TV, giving you an opportunity to catch up with her.

FALZ

This 25-year old gained popularity after comedy videos he posted on Instagram. Today, Folarin Falana is known as a rapper and actor due to the role he is playing in Jenifa’s Diaries.

He won the award for the Best Actor in a Comedy at the 2016 African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Although he tries to keep a low profile, you can watch Falz on the weekly Jenifa’s Diaries.

LILIAN ESORO FRANKLIN

The Imo-born actress is popular for her Nurse Abigail role in Clinic Matters, a drama series.

In 2015, the University of Abuja graduate got married to Ubi Franklin, owner of Triple MG, a record label that until recently managed Iyanya.

EBUKA OBI-UCHENDU

The 34-year-old participant in the only edition of the Big Brother Nigeria show in 2006 has carved a niche for himself as a media personality.

Despite hosting shows on cable TV, Ebuka still anchors Rubbing Minds, a talk show on a local station.

JIDE KOSOKO

Kosoko is a popular name in the Nigerian movie industry, especially in the indigenous circles.

The 62-year old is a popular act in Super Story, a drama series produced by Wale Adenuga.  Super Story dates back to the 90s.

Although he does not appear in every episode, he is perhaps the Nollywood actor that has featured the most in the series.

STEPH NORA OKERE

This indigene of Imo state is the vice-president of the Screenwriters Guild of Nigeria. She is known for her ability to feature in both English and Yoruba speaking movies.

Like Kosoko, the 43-year old actress occasionally appears in drama series produced by Adenuga. She currently plays a role in Super Story.
