66 lawyers represent Saraki at CCT trial

Senate President Bukola Saraki is being represented by 66 lawyers, among whom are seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), in his ongoing trial for alleged false declaration of assets at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), TheCable can report.

Some of the lawyers are Kanu Agabi (SAN), lead counsel; Mahmud Magaji (SAN), Yusuf Ali (SAN), Kehinde Aleja (SAN), Saka Ishau (SAN), Paul Irekoro (SAN) and Alphonsus Ogar.

At the hearing of the case on Friday, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), counsel to the federal government, told Danladi Umar, the judge, that he was ready to present his witnesses.

But Agabi told the court that there was a motion that must be ruled on before the commencement of trial. The motion was to challenge the jurisdiction of the tribunal to try Saraki.

In protest, Jacobs said: “This is a deliberate attempt to scuttle this trial. So that this matter will not go on.”

“Today’s business is trial. That’s my submission.”

Jacobs further said that he had not been served with the motion, and urged the court to discountenance it, and order the calling of witnesses.

He argued that the defence counsel was employing tactical means to stop the trial.

But Agabi apologised to Jacobs for not serving him the motion personally, and asked for the indulgence of the court because he was new to the case.

After listening to the arguments of both counsel, Danladi admitted that Agabi was new to the case, and as such should be given some room to prepare his defence.

He adjourned the matter to March 18 for hearing of the motion and the substantive suit.

  1. Your comment..And u think we can confront corruption? When lawyers are blind with aiding corruption.May God save Nigeria.

  2. Nothing is surprising in Nigeria any more. This very obvious travesty of law being carefully orchestrated by those that should know better reinforces my earlier held positron that the black man is only good at subverting common sense and logic. Unfortunately this is what most Nigerians misunderstand as intelligence. I think Danladi Umar has yielded to the more powerful corrupt elite. No one should hope for a greater tomorrow for this country except you’re the most ridiculous optimist without facts

    1. Hmmmm mm, dis country is going to an end if care is not taking……… I personally believe in DANLADI let’s wait small before any judgment, regards to my people.

  3. Your comment..this is all an attempt to slow down this case and gradually have it done away with like all others. Danladi and agabi are padi padi. There’s no way this case will make head way

  4. With Saraki efforts so far on this case, it is clear that the man is dangerous to our politics. If the system cannot purge him, he would continue to inject venom to the system to the detriment of the masses. The mans mind is rooting nothing good can come out from it. All lovers of justice should form a strong force to keep neutralizing there negative effects in our society.

  5. Many critics here will do worst if they are in Saraki’s post,he is not an angel, expect anything from anybody at anytime, nobody is perfect although it is sadden that Saraki that suppose to be a role model is a culprit, he that couldn’t show integrity in this type of situation can’t be entrusted with better things and we should not expect much from him. Let’s leave Saraki issue, what of Mr President too, in fact things are getting hard for people, there are many graduates with no job, exploitations here and there for a few that are employed, power supply is so bad that in my area Kumapayi, Olodo, Ibadan, Oyo state the IBEDC will just give us at most 30 minutes power supply three days before the day they want to come and give us bill once we pay they will stop giving us power supply, they are thieves, are people not seeing the same thing too. May God heal this country.
