Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, says the “elements” working to sabotage the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming presidential election are northerners.
On February 1, he revealed that there are saboteurs in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration working towards the party’s failure at the polls.
Speaking on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, on Thursday, el-Rufai said the saboteurs in the Aso Villa are not members of the ruling party, describing them as “parasites”.
“I don’t know why Lai Mohammed is responding to my previous statement. I would have expected Garba Shehu or Femi Adesina to respond. In fact, my statement wasn’t directed to the federal government or Buhari but to the elements working against the party,” he said.

“These elements are northerners like Buhari. They don’t hold any office, they are not elected or even electable.
“These elements are not even APC members, they are parasites. They parasite on Buhari and his success. They are not APC members but influential because they are around them all the time.
“The APC is united as a party, we have never been more united. Our governors are on one page. And we are working very hard to ensure that we deliver Asiwaju as the president, and we will in spite of their machinations.

“However, these stumbling blocks were created to make it more difficult for us, because these elements didn’t get what they wanted. They wanted their presidential candidate.”
