Ayiri Emami, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta state, has condoled with the Ijaw nation over the demise of Edwin Clark, the leader of the Pan Niger Delta Development Forum (PANDEF).
The former federal information commissioner died on Monday at 97.
In a statement on Thursday, Ayiri, who is also the Ologbotsere of Warri, described the late elder statesman as a courageous nationalist who stood stoutly for the Ijaw nation and freely ventilated his views on national issues.
“The late leader of the Ijaw nation openly fought for whatever he believed. I urged the Clark – Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo in Burutu local government area of Delta state, to take solace in the fact that Chief Clark lived a fulfilled life and shot the family name to prominence,” the statement reads.

“The avalanche of positive tributes that have trailed the passage of Chief Clark, speaks to the unity of purpose across the country, irrespective of our political and ethno – religious differences.”
The Senate has asked the federal government to honour the late elder statesman by naming a national monument after him.
The resolution to name a monument after the late Clark followed a motion sponsored by Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, the senator representing Delta south and co-sponsored by 16 other lawmakers from the south-south geopolitical zone.
