The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI) says the meeting between Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi and chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, is a strategic political collaboration.
On Thursday, Mohammed hosted Obi at the Ramat House in Bauchi.
Speaking after the meeting, Mohammed said collaborating with Obi would bring good governance to the country.
Ahead of the 2027 general election, politicians across political parties have been holding strategic meetings as talks for a coalition continue to gain momentum.

In a statement issued on Friday, AbdulRazak Ahmed, DWI director of strategic communication, described the meeting as a “pivotal moment in Nigerian politics.”
“We commend Peter Obi for his courageous decision to embrace the most powerful opposition party in the country, thereby positioning himself squarely within the mainstream political discourse,” the statement reads.
“It highlights a shared vision for Nigeria—one that transcends partisan divides and strives for the advancement of a prosperous and harmonious nation.

“Governor Mohammed’s acknowledgement of Obi’s efforts serves as a clarion call for other leaders to engage in constructive dialogue rather than adversarial politics, fostering an environment where diverse perspectives can coexist and contribute to the greater good.”
Ahmed urged Obi to build on the momentum of the visit by deepening discussions with PDP leadership, noting that such a move could redefine his political trajectory.
“Peter Obi has the chance to be at the forefront of a transformative political movement that prioritizes unity and progress,” he said.
“Governor Bala Mohammed’s advocacy for unity and politics without bitterness is a timely reminder of the values that should guide Nigeria’s political landscape.
