Suleiman Abba has been confirmed substantive inspector-general of police, following Tuesday’s meeting of the police council.
Abba was appointed acting inspector-general of police on July 31 after the resignation of Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar.
Until his appointment, he was an assistant inspector-general of police in charge of zone 7.
He also previously served as Rivers state commissioner of police, deputy force secretary, deputy commissioner of police, and assistant commissioner of police in charge of state CID, FCT police command.

Recently, Abba attracted wide criticism for withdrawal of the security details of Aminu Tambuwal, speaker of the house of representatives, after his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Emmanuel Ojukwu, the public relations officer of the police, confirmed the news when asked by TheCable.
“Government appointed him and Nigerians confirmed him,” he said.

Congrats. We hope the confirmation will not be to the advantage of the ruling party?
