Umar Ibrahim
Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, has appointed Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the secretary to the state government (SSG).
The appointment was announced in a statement released by Sunusi Bature DawakinTofa, spokesperson to the Kano governor.
DawakinTofa said the appointment will take effect on February 10, 2025.
The spokesperson said Ibrahim was chosen for his experience and expertise, which will be important in driving forward the administration’s development agenda.

“His career in the civil service, spanning from 1987 to 2023, has been marked by key leadership positions that significantly contributed to the governance and administrative structure of Kano State,” the governor’s spokesperson said.
The appointment comes after Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, former SSG, was dropped on “health grounds” by the Kano governor in December 2025.
Following his sack, Bichi threatened to release “explosive evidence” against political stakeholders in Kano, who he accused of betrayal and deceit.
In October 2024, the sacked SSG was suspended by the Kano chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) over alleged disrespect to the party’s leadership.
