Abba Yusuf begins demolition of ‘illegal structures’ built by Ganduje’s administration

Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, has commenced the demolition of structures believed to be illegally erected on properties belonging to the government.

A task force set up by the governor began the demolition of structures built inside the Kano race course (Filin Sukuwa) in the late hours of Friday.

Yusuf had also directed all land developers at the Hajj camp to stop ongoing construction immediately, adding that the camp has been debased by Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration.

He said that a judicial commission of inquiry would be empanelled in the coming days “to ensure that all perpetrators and those that aided and abetted them are brought to justice.”

“I’m appalled that the facility that was meant to serve as a home away from home for intending pilgrims from Kano State and beyond has been debased by the immediate past administration, with many plots of land sold to their cronies,” he said.

“I am announcing, today, that all these public places and assets that were immorally plundered and sold by the Ganduje administration should be taken over by law enforcement agencies, led by the police, the DSS, Civil Defence, and Hisbah pending the final decision of the government.”

TheCable had reported that during his inaugural speech on May 29, Yusuf had declared that Ganduje’s administration left behind over N241 billion in debt in the state.

He described the debt profile left by his predecessor as “disheartening”, noting that the revenue generated by the previous government is “nothing to write home about”.
