Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, has revoked the contract for the construction of a five-kilometre road in Garko LGA of the state due to the “contractor’s failure to mobilise at the site”.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Yusuf said the project would be re-awarded to a “reliable contractor” within a few days to ensure its timely completion.

The governor, who inspected the Kafinchiri irrigation project, said the flagship scheme will help his government’s drive to “revolutionise” agriculture.

“I was pleased to conduct an on-site assessment of the Kafinchiri Irrigation Project in Garko Local Government Area, a key initiative under our administration’s agricultural transformation drive,” the post reads.

“The project, valued at N2.5 billion, is aimed at bolstering year-round farming, enhancing food security, and driving economic growth in the state.

“My visit to the Kafinchiri Irrigation Project was part of my rural development tour, yesterday, highlighting it as a vital component of our efforts to promote continuous agricultural production in Kano State.

“Similarly, I announced the revocation of the contract for the Garko Local Government five-kilometer road project due to the contractor’s failure to mobilise to the site. We will ensure that a new and reliable contractor would be appointed within a few days to ensure the project’s timely completion.

“I also emphasised our commitment to establish a modern health facility in Garko town, aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to the people. – AKY.”
