Abbas appoints Jake Dan-Azumi, professor of political science, as chief of staff

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives, has appointed Jake Dan-Azumi as his chief of staff (C0S).

Musa Krishi, Abbas’ media adviser, announced the appointment in a statement issued on Monday.

Krishi said Dan-Azumi’s appointment will take effect from October 17.

Dan-Azumi will take over from Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart, acting chief of staff to the speaker, who is taking another appointment.

Until his appointment, Dan-Azumi was the deputy director of democracy and governance/technical assistant to Abubakar Sulaiman, director-general of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).

He served as special assistant to the former Senate president David Mark between 2011 and 2014.

Dan-Azumi is a professor of political science and development studies with extensive experience in democratic governance and public policy, parliamentary affairs, research, peace and security, human rights, conflict and peacebuilding and gender.

He has over 14 years of cumulative experience in the national assembly system, design and delivery of parliamentary and democratic support programmes.

He holds a doctorate degree in international development from University College London (UCL), and an MSc in international human rights law from Oxford University.

He is a first-class graduate from the University of South Africa and the University of Zimbabwe, respectively.

He also holds a postgraduate diploma in research methods from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom (UK).

Dan-Azumi hails from Zing LGA of Taraba state.
