Abducted family members of slain Bauchi lawmaker regain freedom

The two wives and one-year-old daughter of Musa Baraza, a member of the Bauchi state house of assembly who was killed last week, have regained freedom.

The wives and daughter were abducted after gunmen killed Baraza at their residence in Dass local government area of Bauchi.

Ahmed Wakili, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Bauchi, who confirmed the news, said the victims were rescued and their abductors did not get any ransom.

“They were rescued yesterday around 11 pm by the police, no ransom was paid. Immediately they were rescued, they were taken straight to the teaching hospital in Bauchi,” Wakili said.

“They were admitted there for medical attention and no suspects have been arrested yet.”

Ladan Salihu, chief of staff to the state governor, also confirmed the news.

“Alhamdulillah! The Wives of Hon Musa Baraza, Bauchi House Member murdered 4 days ago in Dass have regained freedom,” he tweeted.

“The one-year-old baby abducted along with them is also released. Gov Bala Mohammed has directed Doctors and Security to give them adequate care and attention.”
