Abdulrazaq commits to golf as Ologun wins Kwara Open

Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara, has reinstated his administration’s commitment to sports development in the state, particularly golf.

The governor spoke over the weekend in Ilorin at the Kwara Open Golf tournament final.

Abdulrazaq, who was represented at the event by Bukola Babalola, said the tournament holds enormous potentials capable of improving the socio-economic development of the state.

“The Kwara Open holds a lot potential for tourism, economy and talent development for the state,” she said.

Sola Ologun, a scratch player, returned a brilliant 68 gross to emerge the overall winner at the one-day event.

Ologun beat Kadiri Aminu and Azeez Adebayo with 73 and 74 gross scores to second and third place respectively.

The net winner in the handicap 0-14 is Issa Abdullahi from Hassabari Golf Club Shaki with 68 net. J Eneye of Ekiti Golf Club came second with 69 net, while Stephen Michael of Ilorin Golf Club returned 71 net to place third.

In the ladies category, Evelyn Balogun, the immediate past lady captain of Ilorin Golf Club, won the overall gross prize, Phebian Ayinde, lady captain of the club, won the best net while Jumoke Orire emerged as the runner-up net.

On the other hand, James Gomina won the overall net prize in the handicap 15-28 category with 71 net.

The tournament was graced by several dignitaries including Iyabo Funke Banire, permanent secretary, ministry of sports and youth development and Gani Sanni, managing director, Northern Nigeria Investment Limited, Kaduna.
