The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia state has expelled Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the party’s board of trustees (BoT).

Wabara’s expulsion is contained in a report released by the Abia executive committee (SEC) on Tuesday.

In February, the SEC suspended Wabara over alleged anti-party activities.

Abraham Amah, the PDP state chairman, said Wabara’s suspension would last for one month pending the investigation of a seven-member disciplinary committee.

The SEC accused Wabara of sabotage for “unilaterally” endorsing Alex Otti, governor of Abia and chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), for a second term in office, barely five months after he was sworn into office.

The PDP national working committee (NWC) rejected the suspension, describing it as “reckless and unconstitutional”.

The PDP NWC said no state working committee has the power to suspend or take any disciplinary action against a member of the national executive committee (NEC) of the party without due recourse to the NWC as provided in section 57 (7) of the PDP constitution.

THE EXPULSION

In the report signed by Amah and Peter Nwaokonko, secretary of the PDP in Abia, the SEC said “no member, regardless of status, is above the party’s rules and regulations”.

“The Abia State PDP reaffirms its commitment to upholding party discipline and ensuring that all members operate within the framework of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended),” the report reads.

The SEC said the party “remains resolute in preserving unity, loyalty, and respect for party structures”.

The Abia PDP asked the NWC and the NEC to “act swiftly” in appointing an acting chairman of the PDP BoT in the interest of the party’s stability.
