The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia state says Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of the state, will not get an automatic ticket.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday, Johnson Onuigbo, chairman of the party in the state, said all public offices in the state were open.
Onuigbo said there would be a “level playing ground” for all aspirants.
“All offices for 2019 elections are open and contestable in line with Abia Charter of Equity and PDP zoning formula,” he said.

“In line with the above, there shall be a level playing ground for all aspirants irrespective of position.”
He said the party has resolved to do away with all manner of imposition and impunity.
Onuigbo said although the state working committee (SWC) passed a vote of confidence on Ikpeazu, they were not under any form of pressure in doing so.

The chairman urged PDP members to continue to have confidence in the leadership of the party.
He added that the supremacy of the party as contained in the constitution of PDP would not be compromised.
Ikpeazu has received endorsements from several communities and organisations across the state that have adopted him as their sole candidate for the 2019 governorship election in Abia.
