Abideen Olasupo, convener of FactCheck Africa, has been selected as a delegate speaker at the 2024 One Young World Summit in Montréal, Canada.
According to a statement on Tuesday, the summit is scheduled to be held from September 18 to 21.
The event will gather 2,000 young leaders and experts from more than 190 countries and 250 organisations to address global issues, particularly artificial intelligence (AI).
Olasupo’s session, titled ‘How can humanity make AI a force for good?’ will explore the challenges and opportunities associated with AI.
The discussion will focus on how young leaders can promote the ethical development of AI technology and leverage its potential for positive impact.
Topics to discuss include strategic AI integration into various sectors, ethical AI development and frameworks, and future AI trends and implications.
Olasupo, the CEO of MyAIfactChecker, will offer valuable insights into various aspects of AI, highlighting its role in shaping the future and tackling societal challenges.
In his remarks, he said it is a dream come true to lead an important discussion on artificial intelligence.
“AI has the potential to transform industries and societies, but it is vital that we develop and implement it with a strong ethical framework,” Olasupo said.
“I look forward to collaborating with fellow leaders and sharing strategies on how we can responsibly harness AI for the greater good.
“When we started MyAIfactChecker, we hoped to identify how we could leverage AI to counter fake news. So, over the last couple of months, we’ve had opportunities to get selected for the Google startup challenge, get partnership with Stanford University, and get featured by Meta as well.
“These are testaments to the credibility of the platform, and we’ve trained over 41 journalists across West Africa. So mounting the global stage at One Young World to share our solution, built by an African and a solution that has been used across the globe. This gives me excitement as an innovator and a tech enthusiast.
“I hope that this will give us an opportunity to leverage on connections that will further solidify our solution and look at ethical concerns and regulations around AI in Africa and globally.”
One Young World is a global forum that brings together young leaders from across the globe to address pressing issues and create social impact.
The summit provides a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and youth empowerment.
