Kayode Akinmade, media adviser to Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, has denied reports that some government officials in the state were invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a petition written by Wale Adedayo, an ex-LGA chairman.
In August 2023, Adedayo, a former chairman of Ijebu East LGA in Ogun state, was suspended for three months over allegations of maladministration and financial mismanagement.
He had accused Abiodun of hijacking funds meant for the LGAs in the state.
He was subsequently impeached by the councillors in the LGA in September.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Akinmade admitted that some state government officials were quizzed by the Ibadan zonal office of the EFCC, but not due to a petition filed by Adedayo over the alleged diversion of LGA funds.
“While we continue to respect media organizations as partners in progress, we categorically state that the report in question is nothing but fake news and should be disregarded,” the statement reads.
“As is the case with officials from other state governments, Ogun State officials are not exempt from invitations by anti-graft agencies if clarification on any matter is needed.

“It is reassuring that the EFCC confirmed our officials, as law-abiding citizens, honoured the invitation and have since returned to their duties.”
Akinmade added that it is a “complete fabrication” to claim that the government officials were invited due to a petition by Adedayo.
