‘Abstain from negativities’ — AbdulRazaq, Issa-Onilu urge Muslims in Eid-el-Fitr message

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, says Muslims in the country should avoid acts and behaviours that can “eat away” the rewards of their fasting in the month of Ramadan.

In a statement on Tuesday, Rafiu Ajakaye, chief press secretary to the governor, said AbdulRazaq congratulated the leader of the faithful in Kwara, Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, Emir of Ilorin, on the successful completion of the fasting period.

The governor asked the Muslim community to make the noble activities of the holy month — almsgiving, abstinence from negativities, and good conduct — an integral feature of their daily lives.

Also, in his Eid-el-Fitr message to Nigerians, Lanre Issa-Onilu, director general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), urged citizens to pray for peace, imbibe the virtues of selflessness, patriotism, sacrifice and good neighbourliness towards all.

Issa-Onilu said the lessons of the holy month, if imbibed, would ensure peaceful coexistence, patriotism and national development in the country.

“Eid-el Fitri is an opportunity to demonstrate and entrench the virtues of patience, self-control, and sobriety taught by Ramadan,” he said.

“Ramadan is a month-long religious obligation with far longer social and national benefits.”

The NOA boss said Nigerians, more than ever before, need to show patriotism, love and affection toward others noting that such would avert anarchy and guarantee sustainable development in the country.
