Francis Epe, Nigeria’s current number-one-ranked golfer, will lead other top players who have enlisted to feature at the maiden tournament to launch Acropolis Golf Club in Ihiala, Anambra, on April 6.

In a statement on Monday, Obioma Ogakwu, the acting resort manager of the club, added that Sunday Olapade, former Nigeria’s number one who is also the recent winner of the Libreville Open in Gabon and winner of the 2023 Goldfield Championship in Ghana, will join also be present at the competition.

Other participants are Gift Willy, the 2023 CIO Open winner, and Oche Odoh, Nigeria’s most decorated professional golfer.

“It is delightful to see the interest that the golf course has generated among the golfing community so far and particularly the encouragement we have got from the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria, which ensured the participation of Nigeria’s top golfers in this maiden event,” Ogakwu said.

“We have carefully selected the players for this inaugural event, not only because they are the best in the business but also because we believe they would add value to the course. We also target that in the future, some of the best players in Nigeria would have been groomed from here, based on the fact that we have attracted the best players this time.”

Meanwhile, Mike Ubi, the professional consultant on the new course, has said that the facility’s unique features were designed to attract both amateur and professional golfers from around the world in the short term.

Participants are scheduled to arrive in Ihiala on April 5 before taking to the course on April 6, while they would depart the resort on April 7.
