Acting Adamawa governor wins PDP primary

Alhaji Umaru Fintri has been elected as the aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the Adamawa state governorship election on October 11.

Fintri, who was initially screened out among the aspirants, is expected to complete the tenure of ousted governor Murtala Nyako.

He was the speaker of the state house of assembly until he succeeded Nyako, in line with the constitution.

Announcing the result on Sunday, the chairman of the election committee, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, said Fintiri scored 624 votes to emerge winner.

Dr Ahmed Modibbo, the former Universal Basic Education Commission boss, came second with 197 votes followed by Buba Marwa with 54 votes.

Dr Umar Ardo got nine votes while Jerry Kundisi scored four votes.

Following an arrangement by the leadership of PDP that candidates who contest the October election would not stand for election in 2015, about eight top aspirants, including Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stepped down.
